The General Plan Update process consists of eight main tasks. Here is the project status for each:
|1. Project Initiation and Community Involvement Strategy||Complete|
|2. Issue Identification and Key Strategies||Complete|
|3. Existing Conditions, Trends, and Opportunities Assessment||Complete|
|5. Preferred Plan and Key Goals||Underway|
|6. Draft General Plan||Not Begun|
|7. Draft and Final General Plan EIR||Not Begun|
|8. Hearings and Adoption||Not Begun|
At each stage, there are opportunities for community involvement and input. Community workshops are held for many tasks, and information about the General Plan will be available at venues and events around town. A General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) meets regularly to discuss issues and advise decision-makers; all are welcome to attend GPAC meetings. Study sessions of the City Council and the Planning Commission, focusing specifically on the General Plan Update process, are held periodically and are also open to the public. Additionally, questions or comments about the plan and process are welcome at any time. Please see the Project Schedule for more information on the project timeline.
What We're Working on Now:
Preliminary Preferred Plan
At their January 30, 2018 joint session, the Planning Commission and City Council reviewed the three land use alternatives and selected a preferred alternative.
We're now working on fleshing out the draft land use map and drafting key guiding policies for the mixed use areas based on their recommendations. The draft map and policies will be discussed at the GPAC meeting on April 19, 2018.
